All of a sudden, this purple marker appeared at the beginning of the score. I don’t know where it came from, but I certainly want to remove it. How do I do this? I tried Shift-Alt-I but that has no effect.

The “Cycle Locators” were introduced in Dorico 6.0.
If you’re unfamiliar with them, I’d suggest reading the Version History notes, to see all the features that have been introduced since then.
Under Play, select ‘clear cycle locators’.
