Putting in lyrics on tied notes

Hi,

I have some beginner piano solos where I need to put in lyrics where there are rests and tied notes (because the bass clef has the note that is sung but the lyric needs to be where all the treble staff lyrics are). I can see that I can include a lyric under a rest as in the first measure, but how can I put a lyric on tied notes? Like in this picture?

What is the best way to do this? (In Finale, I used to have to input a hidden voice with all the correct pitches in one staff, but that was frustrating.)

If you just want “all___” to be above the staff, select it and press F to flip it.

That just flips it but doesn’t put it in the same line as the original lyrics. How do I get the lyrics to all appear in the same line?

There is an easy solution: write everything without ties first. Dorico will let you write lyrics under rests, so no problem there. Then, with all syllables put in, tie the notes:

syllables in tie chains

Okay that would work here! Thank you! But what about here where I would need to include lyrics for the bass staff but in same line as the treble staff (but it has a whole rest).

Lots of things are possible…

(BTW I’m no expert at handling lyrics!)

Thank you! I’ll see if I can figure out how to do those things. I appreciate the ideas!

( @Janus: lovely how you matched text style :upside_down_face: )

Another way is to activate the caret, navigate to the spot, and then press Shift-L to add the lyric there.

That’s how I prefer to do it.

This is of course better and logical - thanks Dan!

Wow! That’s the simplest solution yet for what I’m doing. Thank you so much, Derrek!!

This.
Is the easiest way possible. All hail the caret!
