Q-Link

Hi All,
Generally, if I wanted to assign a succession of tracks to a specific Group Track, I could press “shift” and “Alt” and it would engage the Q-Link, enabling the string of tracks to be executed simultaneously for the same command. Cubase 14 Pro is no longer doing this. I now have to execute the command one by one to that row of tracks. Is there something that I may have inadvertently disengaged to cause this function to not work correctly? If so, how can I re-engage it?
Thanks for your thoughts!

I usually select the tracks then i press Q-Link. Shift + Alt won’t keep Q-Link engaged.

This might help, couldn’t find any other setting in preferences.

Thanks for the hit!
Where is the Q-Link? I’ve always used the Shift/Alt combo up until this point.

You need to keep Shift + Alt pressed while you make changes and that can lead to mistakes. That’s why I prefer to use the Q-Link button. Then you need to disengage when you’re done!

I always use the QLink button, except i mapped it to a conveniently accessible key on my keyboard to be able to toggle it without much thinking

Cubase gets a lot of flak here (often rightfully), but QLink continues to be a brilliant workflow enhancement in the mix console.

Well, except if you forgot to toggle it off and continue to make changes to many selected channels that you didn’t intend to do. Happened to a friend of mine… :face_savoring_food:

You can assign a key of your choice to QLink in the Key Commands.

Except it now only works if a Mixer window is in focus…..

If you’re working in the arrange page and try to turn on Q-Link via a Key Command it will now fail (it worked pre C15).

You can now only toggle Q-Link via a Key Command if you have a mixer window showing and it’s in focus. They’ve really screwed Q-Link in C15.

And even then, the feature is inconsistent across the software when all it takes on competing products is hold a modifier key while you have multiple parameters selected and it does it. No extra button or shenanigans like that. I didn’t even know it was possible to do it in the arranger window because the thing doesn’t work half the time as the steps to make it happen are fragile to the point even doing them in a slightly different order breaks it.

But I don’t want to hold down a modifier key all the time… i very much prefer the QuickLink, especially if I edit plugin parameters across several selected channels.

Believe me, best way is to press the damned Q-Link button. It doesn’t take any more time than pressing 2 buttons - key command and expecially….it works in any mixer scenario.

Easy isn’t it?

Except that’s not faster. You still have to select your tracks, then move your mouse to the Q-Link button and move your stuff. the only difference here is you’re trading an extra key press for pressing a button in the UI. And in some DAWs that’s not even an extra keypress because the modifier that does “Q-Link” is the same you use to select multiple tracks.

Also, that button doesn’t exist in the arranger window, so you still have to press not one but two modifier keys to make that happen.

That button is in both mixer. It doesn’t take more than one second to click, the same time you need to press whatever comb. on your keyboard. Come on! Faster… ffs.

That’s good to know about CB 15 ahead of time.
Problem is, it failed for me in CB 14. I pressed and held Shift/Alt until the command was done and no result. I’ve done this hundreds of times, including in CB 14 and all of the sudden, no go.
Next time I have CB open, I’ll try pressing the Q-Link button to see if it’s any different.

Shift/Alt has been the key command that I’ve used for Q-Link. I don’t know if assigning another key will change the outcome.
When I press Shift/Alt Simultaneously, the Q-Link button on the mixer window stays lit until I let go but fails to function like it previously did.
