Quantize Cubase 15

Overall I really like a lot of things about Cubase 15 Pro. However the quantize function seems to have changed. I’m not saying it’s bad, perhaps I just don’t know how to use it properly. i.e., Many times I highlight the notes and click quantize and it does absolutely nothing. Normally that’s due to selecting an eighth note as opposed to sixteenth etc., but unlike previous versions of Cubase, there are times when I make multiple changes and click quantize multiple time (or press Q) and it does nothing. Many times when I magnify a section I’m working on in the editor, there’s still a small space between the note and the grid, so I end up manually dragging the note(s) to the grid line.

Either the quantize function is kind of buggy… or there is more to know on how to use it, in which case if anyone knows a specific tutorial please let me know.

thx

Hi,

Is the Soft Quantize option enabled on your side by any chance?

Could you attach a screenshot of your Quantize Panel, please?

My guess is as Martins, but:

Quantizing in Cubase is a very powerful tool (both for midi and audio), and the relation between soft or strong quantizing, the snap setting , how to use the quantizing panel etc is a must to understand imo.

Don’t take it as an offend, but
I strongly recommend to invest some time reading the manuals chapter about quantizing. It will pay off in later works.

Also check what your quantize value is set to. If it’s at a high resolution - like 1/128 - you may not notice it happening.

Thank you all for your replies…

Q Is the Soft Quantize option enabled

R No

Q attach a screenshot of your Quantize Panel, please?

R attached

Q Also check what your quantize value is set to.

R Not sure if I’m looking in the right place, but it says 100% and snap is set to grid

Do you have auto record quantize enabled? That would explain it. Can’t see on your screen. It’s the little AQ at the bottom left.

Do your notes sound off? If they sound on-time then they are quantized already. If your recording was pretty tight then maybe you didn’t notice them nudge over a tiny bit, when pressing quantize.

If you manually click on the “apply quantize” button with your mouse in the quantize panel, do you notice the notes nudge?

You have it set to an eight triplet. You meant to do this?

With your Ctrl + Q you might be quantizing lengths instead of apply quantize. I don’t know what your key commands are but you will want to be using ‘Quantize’.

I appreciate all of your responses, nothing was askew in relation to your comments.

Curiously if I look up close at the midi edit screen, Ive noticed if I click quantize several times, normally it does nothing the first time, some notes move on the second time, and others don’t move until I click it the third or even fourth time. I find that really odd, but as a result I just click it several times, and for the most that resolves the issue. Still not sure why I need to do this…

I tend to think there’s something bigger going on with my system. Lately I’ve noticed it seems to be almost constantly “thinking” (defined as processing/indexing/saving…who knows). It’s become the norm for me to click things twice, as many times the first click does nothing. And lately it crashes twice a day… which is a new (and highly annoying) phenomenon.

Hi,

Try to set the Safe Range and the Rough Quantize to the default values: 0.
