Question about Condensing 3 instrument logic

Hi,

I’m currently working on an orchestral score, and I’m a bit confused by how Dorico handles condensing the trumpet parts.

In the screenshot I shared, I copied the trumpet 1 part and pasted it into trumpet 2 and 3. I was expecting Dorico to condense the parts into “a. 3” (all three trumpets playing the same line), but it only condensed trumpet 1 and 2, leaving trumpet 3 out.

So I wanted it to condense to a.3 but it condenses 1 and 2 but not 3.

Am I missing something here?

Thanks in advances

It’s hard to tell what’s happening without seeing your project. But one possibility could be that you have a condensing group for Tpts 1-2, without Trumpet 3. Or, maybe the dynamics (or some invisible thing if signposts aren’t turned on) wasn’t copied at exactly the same rhythmic position.

The Players tab under Layout Options (command-shift-L on Mac) might be able to help you out; but the best thing is probably to upload a small excerpt of your project, so we can see exactly what’s going on.

If you check the second page in the screenshot, you’ll see that they are back in one staff.

@chip715 it’s also strange as the notes are tied between two pages, which would typically mean that they are considered part of the same phrase, and so should be condensed the same way.

Did you put any Condensing Changes in?

We really do need to see a project.
