Question about Lanes

Hi All!

Is there a quick way of selecting particular lanes in set of tracks?

ie - I have a recording with 32 tracks, each of which has three record passes. I want to listen to Lane 1 in all tracks, then Lane 2 in all tracks, etc… Without having to go through 32 tracks and selecting the particular lane I want to hear individually.

Thanks!

-Ro

I do not understand how Cubase would understand how this would be a natural workflow. I am just putting in a reply just in case this is possible. I would like to know if it is actually possible

The way Lanes work you are never really Selecting the Lane, rather you Select Audio Events on the Lanes. The main purpose of Lanes is to facilitate Comping a performance from multiple takes.

The mechanism in Cubase to do what you want is Track Versions. You can use the Version ID Numbers so that all the different Tracks switch to a different Version at the same time. So all the Tracks will switch for example from Take 1 to Take 3. Or you could set it so each Track can switch independently - or even a mix of both.

Put all your tracks in a folder track and activate group editing. Now if you select one take on one track, all the corresponding takes on the other tracks will be selected as well (use the comp tool for this, because this way the other takes will be muted automatically). With group editing activated also every other editing step will be synchronized on all lanes e.g. cut, resize, move etc. But it only works if all the corresponding takes have the same exact start and length (that is if they have been recorded together).

Beware that Cubase has a BUG when splitting with the Comp Tool across a multitrack session.
I have tried to tell Steinberg of these issues for over a decade… but have given up :frowning:

More on this topic in these posts, where I talk about my now established “workarounds” when doing multitrack recordings, especially on drums:

Hope this not only help, but bring this awful BUG to Steinberg’s attention… again
