Question about lines between instruments

In a polyphonic chamber music score, I sometimes write voices that start in one instrument and continue in another one and in cases where this is not obvious, I would like to point the voice leading out with a line between two notes in different instruments. I hide those lines in individual parts, they should only appear in the score.

Sometimes this works, but often these lines are deleted by Dorico when I switch between layouts or when I close and reopen a project. Are lines between instruments supposed to work (i.e., is it an intended feature)?

Unfortunately not, lines are only intended for use between staves belonging to the same player.

You could use lines in graphics frames for the score, perhaps? Although frames are locked to the page, rather than the music.

Or, add a line that’s only attached to one player, which you graphically offset in the score. Again, this probably won’t be very resistant to the casting off changing.

Thank you for your quick response. I will try the graphical offset workaround you mentioned when everything else is finished.

Interestingly enough, this line here (really positioned between the 2 instruments!) is already there for more than a year and it already survived 1000s of changes/closes/reopens, so it seems to me that the current implementation is not too far away to make them work everywhere

So it would also be nice to find out under what specific conditions they do work (how you can trigger this unofficial feature).
