He asked just out of curiosity: Is it the same to purchase an update in the official Steinberg store as in Plugin Boutique?
I ask because on Plugin Boutique it’s the same price, but there is a free plugin included with the purchase.
Obviously, if it is safer to do it in the Steinberg store, I prefer to make the purchase there. I intend to update my Nuendo 13 to Nuendo 14.
I’ve bought several plugins from PB over the last few years and have found them to be very reliable.
The one Steinberg product I bought from them was Backbone. After paying through PB, I had to download, register and authorise the software through the Steinberg website, just as I would with any other Steinberg software product. So it ends up being no different except, as you point out, you get a free plugin from PB as part of the deal.
They’re pretty solid. Have bought quite a bit of stuff from them over the years, especially BFD products. No issues at all.
I can confirm. I have bought a Steinberg product at PB, too. Same procedure as usual. PB is an established UK based company so there’s nothing to worry about.
