If the last note in a bar is a flat (Eb for example) and it is tied to the first note of the next bar which is also an E, is it played as Eb or natural?
Eb

Ties always join notes of the same pitch (including enharmonic equivalents).

Although see Library > Notation Options > Accidentals, especially Second Viennese School Options, for more illumination of Dorico’s flexibility in cases where that flat is an accidental.

And why? Because the definition of a tie is that it means the second note is not struck or sounded but continues the initial note. So the note cannot be different. You may be thinking of a slur, which has the same appearance.

Also, with respect, ‘Question’ is not a good topic title in Discourse as it gives no clue as to what the topic is about. Even ‘Tie question’ would be better. But I am not the moderator so I better shush! ![]()
