If I create a score with 2 groups, chorus I and chorus II, and I want to mark I and II as shown on the second page, how do I do that? Do I need to write it manually on each page?
I feel like Iâm going crazy but they appear identical to me?
Iâm confused!
The best solution will depend on what else you want/need to do.
Will you consistently use 2 staves per chorus throughout, or will you need to split into more precise subdivisions?
Will you at any point want staff-specific labels in addition to the I/II ?
etc
The number of staff can vary depending on the page, sometimes being 2 staff or 3 staff. I and II should be included on most pages, but there are some pages where they are not included.
Would it be better to set it as a template and apply it to each page?
Hereâs an example of doing this â it requires Dorico Pro to work with fully, really:
- One section player per chorus, with divisi changes to 2/3 staves per chorus as needed
- Divisi section numbers hidden (Layout Options)
- Instruments renamed to I / II
- Grouped instrument name alignment changed to the top staff per group (Engraving Options)

The score shows the instrumentation as SATB1, SATB2. On the first page, I want the full names of the instruments to be displayed. On the second page, I want them to be shown as I/II. If II is hidden, I want only I to be shown, with no indication of II, and in this case, the instrument name will not be visible
Thatâs right, can the short name be set to display only the desired page? Also, is it possible to set two short names? Some places need to show 1+2.
Should 1+2 be entered as plain text?
Sorry: I just realised my error and removed my post.
You can customize staff labels at each divisi change.
These follow-ups are why I asked what exactly you needed: if you want comprehensive advice for every situation in your score, youâll need to outline what those situations are because weâre not mind-readers!

I entered I, II, I+II as playing techniques manually, but is there a way to make them appear like that on every page? Do I need to create a text box with a template to do this?(The configuration of I, II, I+II that appears on each page is different.)
Hereâs an alternative back:
-
I changed the players from being single type to being section type, as that allows you to use divisi changes.
-
I used the per-layout option to hide empty staves, instead of manual staff visibility (much easier if all youâre doing is hiding empty staves).
-
I added divisi changes at the start of the 2nd and 3rd systems, added an extra section, then deleted it: this lets you edit the staff label for a single division. I made that I, II, or I+II as needed.
Youâll still get the player group labels, which isnât exactly what youâre after.
If you really want further control, depending on the performance materials you ultimately need, you could have separate players and groups of players for different staff label configurations: you donât have to use one set of players all the way through.
If you do end up manually positioning text (possibly more flexible than a playing technique) to the left of systems, and need to indent those systems manually, you could for example move the left edge of the music frame inwards, rather than nudging every system in a bit (which will get tedious quickly: you could create a page template with the indented music frame, for easy and consistent reuse).

Could you show how to do it in a video?
Is it possible to hide the text âGroup 1â and âGroup 2â on page 2?
No, but you can read up about how to do each of these things in the manual or look up some videos.
You can use the Library Manager to compare my project against yours, to pin down what options I changed.
How do I know if a score is a single type or a section type?
By the icon in the Players panel in Setup mode.
The flute is a single player (the icon has one head); the violin is a section player (the icon has two heads).
I understand how to use divisi, but where do I enter the names like I, II, or I+II?
The file you provided doesnât have the text for âchange divis.â
In the Change Divisi dialog, in the top part:
You canât change the text for a âunis.â division, but if you first add a second division, then delete the second division, the remaining first division can have its text edited.
