Question regarding Drum Sets and Independent Voice Playback

The drum set I’m using in my project doesn’t have a snare roll sample, so I’m wondering if it’s possible in Dorico to use something akin to independent voice playback to switch between VSTs and get a snare roll working.

Does this already exist in Dorico?

I think it’s going to be easy to do if you use a vsti that has all the samples you need for all used snare techniques. Then route your snare instrument to that vsti in Play mode.
Changing vsti for one particular technique is probably natural when you use a DAW (logic, cubase) with those huge templates but it’s not transposable to how Dorico works…

When you say “routing the snare instrument to that vsti”, are you talking about routing the whole drum set or is it possible in Dorico to route a snare drum in a drum set to a different vsti?

You can route individual instruments within a percussion kit to a particular virtual instrument, but you can’t route just one playing technique from an instrument to a virtual instrument.

If you switch to Play mode and expand the percussion kit, you’ll see a “sub-track” for each instrument in the kit. You can select each of those instruments and route them independently using the controls in the Routing section of the Track Inspector panel.

Oh, okay! That’s what I was looking for; I just was describing what I wanted incorrectly. Thank you, Daniel!!

Just for future reference if anyone sees this thread and sets up multiple VSTs for a drum set: at first, the custom percussion map I assigned to the snare’s separate VST wasn’t adjusting the MIDI notes mapped to the drum, even though I set up the expression and percussion maps in the Routing section; I realized that you first have to add an extra MIDI channel into the Endpoints Setup window, since you’re not adding additional instruments to your score!

Thanks so much for your help, everyone
