Question regarding loops

I am a cmpletely novice in Cubase. I am trying to insert bass loops and it works. But a strage thing is that if I click on the loudspeaker symbol of the track nothing sounds. If I disable the loudspeaker symbol then the track sounds. This seems to me strange. But, as said Iam a novice and it may have a reasonable explanation.

Hello and welcome,

the loudspeaker symbol on an audio track symbolizes the input of the track/of the channel. If you engage the speaker you monitor the input signal and at the same time mute the output signal.
In Cubase you must chose whether you want ot hear what comes in or what goes out on an individual channel.

OK. Thanks for your answer. Where in Cubase can I do this choice?

??? It is the loudspeaker symbol that you already found. I just explained what it does.

What I mean is if, as you say I have a choice, then it should be possible to change this behavior so that when enabling the loudspeaker the sound is not muted. Is there any way to do this in Cubase 14 Pro?

No, you can’t change that behavior and I can’t think of a reason why you would want to.
As JM explained above, activating Monitor lets you hear the Input(s) connected to that Track and is useful only when you use an Audio Track for recording. When using an Audio Track for playing back prerecorded material, such as audio loops from your library, the Monitor button doesn’t fill a purpose.
