[Question] Why do imported audio tracks have 2 lanes?

Hey guys

I just imported an audio track in Cubase 5, it’s a song from a CD. And I noticed it has 2 lanes. Why does the track have 2 lanes? Are they in anyway different? Do they, perhaps, represent the left and right stereo channels of the track?

I already read the official tutorial, but still don’t know.
