When I use eg Ozone Eq low frequency, the linear travel of freq is unusable eg its so coarse it jumps from 20 to 220 with with click on encoder (ctrl is emulating mackie binary offset relative controller)
Its connected as midi remote
How does everyone else manage this?
By writing a custom MIDI Remote script utilizing “Custom Value Variables”.
In my opinion, it’s a pretty big oversight that MIDI Remote does not feature any kind of scaling options when mapping an endless rotary encoder to a VST Parameter leaving them stuck at a 7-bit resolution. I wrote about it in length in this thread over a year ago.
Yeah you hit the nail on the head
NO…NO…Im not coding anymore…done it for 30 years…time to make music and stop fiddling
Vendors releasing half baked products and expecting users to foot the bill for a paid product…you are kidding right…its not open source. Steiny do so many great things but remote midi has always been just a half thought…sorry to be honest. I look at Live, at least there is Remotify (nice work John!).
Ill try hacking an arturia minilab into a control module as they do 14 bit on the encoders…firs will test to make sure it all works but the mapping editor seems to account for RPN in 14 bit (now?)
Hi Aurasphere, I LOVE your reaction to the ongoing “code a script” comments whenever flaws in the Remote Area are discussed. I am an absolutely experienced programmer and have professionally developed software in various areas for my life. Even though this is the case I do refuse to start coding in the context of making music. I want to focus. Focus on music. It is meant to be a contribution to personal balance.
In my opinion the key issue is the lack of readiness to COMPLETE the editor for remote controls so that coding is not necessary (the editor could include EVERYTHING if designed properly). I urge Steinberg to invest in the editor so that it provides the full functionality and not only the “basics”.
I do understand, that for the programmers at Steinberg it seems logical to insisit on “scripting” - and I also see that there are many Cubase users who obviously are ready or have too much time left so that they make writing scripts their main occupation.
But this is NOT how it has to work or how it SHOULD work.
I dont write scripts to do online banking, neither will I to have a decent remote contol functionality. And especially not in a stupid programming language that unfortunately has spread like cancer.
What you have said is so true
I used to code 4 days then fridays was music day to balance and breath…somewhere along the line i committed so much time to hacking atuff and its so frustrating to be wasting my time scripting. I see cubase as a master instrument and by now, releasing half baked solutions just destroys credibilty.
I agree with you and reiterate
I am willing to pay well for good tools but dont release stuff that is half baked or reasonably functional for professional musicians.
Stop creating half baked new features, resolve existing bugs and stability instead and do the house keeping that has been neglected for many years and resume the earlier great values of an excellent company
RE 14bit controllers
For testing Im just using pitch bend as 14bit controller but it divides the spectrum into equal gaps so the resolution is still unusable
