Is there an easy shortcut method to set a bookmark in Dorico and then pop back to it, effectively telling Dorico “go back to where I just was”?
If I happen to remember a measure number close by, Go To Bar (Cmd + G) can be helpful, but I don’t always remember.
I’m currently doing a transcription of a very old song of my own from a recording. I have no written version, so imported a WAV to Logic.
(I’m sure there must be better transcription tools that I know nothing about.)
I’m currently working with two user interfaces, Dorico and Logic. Sometimes I press a key in one when I have the other app selected, leading to instant chaos.
For instance, although P is the usual key to start playback in Dorico, it also starts with Space (I’ve forgotten why that’s true). In Logic, Space is the usual way to start playback. If I press it in the wrong app I can find myself looking at Dorico many measures away from where I’m working and then have to search back and set things again. In Logic, I’m working with short segments in cycle mode, and I can find it suddenly unset and flung to some far reach of the piece and have to search and set it up again.
I’ve learned that calm patience is better than getting angry.
This is particularly frustrating with playback. I’ve been working on doing transcriptions for the last few months, and it’s reasonable to assume I’ll continue to have a problem with it and would to well to find a way to straighten things out again.
Are there any GNU Emacs users out there? If you’re not, you’re done here, so don’t bother to read this paragraph. In Emacs I typically run set-mark (C-SPC) followed by keyboard-quit (C-g) to kill the selection. After that, if I wander off somewhere and want to go back where I just was, I’ll use exchange-point-and-mark (C-x C-x) followed by keyboard-quit (C-g), once again to kill the selection. I’ve used Emacs since 1987, so I think that pattern is now in my DNA. That’s the sort of behavior I’d like to see in Dorico.
