Ram vs CPU ?

I am struggling with getting my DM-24 working in Windows 7 64bit

That being said I am trying to determine if I really need to.

I have an intel i5 proc and 16gigs of ram. My real question is what do I gain with more then 3.40 gigs of accessible ram?

How much of Cubase 6 is CPU intensive and how much is RAM intensive?

I am trying to decide if it is worth the cost to change my I/o from the DM-24 if it is even possible, I am looking in to TDIF right now.

Thank you in advance for your time

It’s not about how much CPU or RAM Cubase is using. It’s about your plugins.

Good options for TDIF connectivity are for example MOTU 2408 or RME HDSP 9652 with TEB expansion cards.

Thank you for the reply, I will look at those cards.

So what I am thinking is to use two TDIF cards for 16 channels of recording sends. ADAT for the returns and MIDI for the faders and transport control. Will this work?

It does, but TDIF’s are bi-directional. No need to use ADAT, if you’re already using TDIF. And note: with your DM-24 you can’t use ADAT at the same time as TDIF-3.

I would recommend one of following setups:

  1. MOTU 2408 => 3xTDIF IN/OUT => 24 ch I/O
  2. HDSP 9652 + 1 TEB => 1xADAT + 1xTDIF IN/OUT => 16 ch I/O
  3. HDSP 9652 + 2 TEB => 1xADAT + 2xTDIF IN/OUT => 24 ch I/O

i found a great mix map that allows me to use all 32 faders, but with 23/24 used for the return I loose those 2.
I there a way to gain them back?

I asking on the TASCAM forum as well.

thanks
