Random Corrupt Files

I’ve been using various versions of Cubase since the 1980s.
Now I’m up to Cubase Elements V8.
It’s mostly adorable, but every now and then a file will go corrupt for no apparent reason.
Even the backups fail to perform as they should.
The most common feature is that audio recording does not work.
I know it’s a corruption issue because audio recording does work in other files and new files, without changing any system settings.
An example of a corrupt CPR file is attached.
Well - it would have been except that the forum gives an error message.
Some bullshit about .CPR being an invalid file extension.
Does anyone have similar experiences or know of a way to cure and maybe even prevent the corruption?
