I’m editing a percussion score (in a score layout) and this happened and I can’t figure out why. As you can see, the two instruments are on their own staff in one system and then not…
Under Layout Options > Players > Instrument Changes, uncheck the Allow instrument changes checkbox to force the staves apart. They aren’t consolidated on the first system due to the overlap between instruments in bar 68, even though it’s just a single 8th-note.

That certainly fixed this spot, but the whole thing then had all staves in all systems. I tried putting text (spaces) on one of the instruments to force a separate staff, but it didn’t work. Using the score layout has advantages over doing it as a part with all the instruments, but if this can’t be fixed, it won’t work after all…I’d love a workaround that would (invisibly) force a separate staff!
Would activating Layout Options > Vertical Spacing > Staff Visibility > Hide empty staves on the score-style layout give you what you’re after?
