Re-Writing/Recording Automation Without Fader Jumping Around

Hey Guys,

Is there a way to Write Automation while recording over other Automation Inputs without having the fader jump around? Let’s say I recorded the volume Automation for a track but i want to redo it and overwrite the previous Automations without interference from the last Automation events.

Thanks, Nicolas.

Hi,

You can do this by using a motorized fader. Or you can Suspend Read with non-motorized fader.

Oh, what’s the procedure for the non motorized fader? I was assuming there would be some preference change in the settings, like some “Overwrite Ongoing Automation Events.”

Hi,

Two ways:
A

  • Open the Automation Panel.
  • Enable the Suspend Read.
  • Eable Write on the track.
  • Write new automation.
  • Disable Suspend Read.

B

  • On the given track Mute Automation.
  • Eable Write on the track.
  • Write new automation.
  • Disable the Mute Automation.

I think the second way works for me, but just for reference because i couldn’t find anything that SHOWS what Suspend Read is or where to find it.

Hi,

The reference is in the Automation Panel and the Read/Write/Suspend Buttons.

Okay I seem to have found the function i was looking for. For reference to the thread I’m going to go through it step by step for the others looking for this function.

Go to Project in the Top Left Tab.

Go to Automation Panel

In the Operations Tab, The default will be the Touch Function. Select Auto-Latch to be able to overwrite the preceding Automation Events after the cursor. (Make sure to have the Write Key Enabled on the Track.
