I see that there has been some discussion about having a read-only mode for the iPad version, but I would just like to offer an official feature request for the desktop version. I often keep a project open while working in Logic. If I do anything in Dorico—like change layouts, make a correction, etc.—I have to be very careful to click back into a Logic window before moving forward. I often forget to do this, only to discover that I have inadvertently edited the score, often hours later when I have moved onto another section and made additional corrections and cannot figure out how far back I have to go to find and correct the problem(s).
Hi @jjm_335, sorry if I misunderstand, but after making your changes in Dorico, wouldn’t you need also to remember to switch to read-only mode anyway? (if this functionality would be implemented)
Yes, that’s true, if I make a change to the score. But most of the time I’m reading parts as I play them, and just moving from page to page as I read. So in most cases, I’m not changing anything in the project.
A suggestion (meanwhile, waiting for your feature request to become a reality) could be exporting the layout that you need to PDF, and read them from there? Or just take a quick screenshot of the needed pages and read from there? (sorry if this sound unpractical, banal or obvious. Just thinking out loud)
All good ideas, but not always practical for me. Sometimes I like to view two or more pages at once and it’s very hard to do this with pdfs, I find. If I do have to make an edit, then I end up having to remake pdfs with the corrections, which interrupts the flow.
I do sometimes read from pdfs on the ipad, but page turns can be tricky. And I also sometimes like to read directly from the score in galley view. I guess it just feels a lot more efficient to be able to work from the project with all features available when needed.
Read from Print Mode?
Print mode does not allow for viewing multiple pages or smooth scrolling between pages, unless I’ve misunderstood some settings.
