Hello. Pictured below in the attachment is my project screenshot. I have a repeat ending that is starting too early for the second pass when I use the playback feature. I’d like the second pass to begin on beat three of that final measure and not on beat one. How can I change the note assignment or beat assignment for when the second pass should begin with the repeat ending so I can hear it in playback? I’ve tried to illustrate this as best as I can in the attached snapshots of my project. Notice in the photos that there are dashed lines from the repeat ending that go to a note at the begining of the measure. I have indicated with a red box, an arrow line, and a hand drawn line where I’d like the repeat ending to start. In the other photo, I have manually moved the starting point of the repeat ending to beat three of the measure, however, on playback it is still playing the second pass from the begining of the measure at beat one when it should begin at beat 3. Hopefully that makes sense. Note that the measure after this measure where the second pass goes to is a full measure of four beats. I’m not sure if that small detail is pertinent to this conversation. Hopefully this all makes sense!
Hi @GeorgeMaster, you can obtain this using three* bars of (hidden) 2/4, and a Tick barline (set the Out property to -1) so it will be invisible, and then re-enter the 4/4 (hidden) after the repeat. You can then apply your 1. repeat to the second 2/4 bar.
This looks good and plays back correctly (you can adjust the position of the first D in Engrave mode/Note spacing, if desired).
(*) if the second repeat should be 4/4, then re-enter the 4/4 there (and hide it, so you only have the two bars of 2/4):

Dorico File Example:
repeat in middle of bar.dorico (530.5 KB)
It is a fundamental feature of Dorico’s design that any change you make in Engrave mode will not affect how the music is played.
Conventionally repeat endings are whole bars. Dorico follows that convention.
Yes, there are some exceptions, and the simple workaround of splitting the bar and hiding the barline/time signature allows you to do this (it’s hardly fifty thousand steps!)
Awesome. I have followed the steps that you have laid out. Although the function for adjusting the tic is not showing per the screenshot that you shared. Any ideas?
You have to change that barline into a Tick barline First, in Write Mode.
Got it. Thank you.
