Is it possible to use the arranger to record an audio track to the corresponding arranged events into the audio track event segments? I would prefer not to flatten it yet. But I am thinking that is the only way - Can someone please confirm this for me - thanks

No, this is not possible. You can Flatten it to the new project, so you will not lose your original one.
