Hi all,
mostly the distance between the hyphens is OK, but sometimes I get this:
![]()
Is there any setting that will distribute hyphens evenly between syllables? Or do I have to override this manually?

My settings at the moment are:
Your hyphens are staying next to the syllables because the minimum gap is set too low. The default is 2 spaces.
The Minimum SPACE (as opposed to gap) is ok, but could be even lower. The factory default is 1 space, which is far too high, IMO. This setting is essentially “padding” between the syllable and the hyphen when they are close. I have this at 1/8.
The gap between hyphens is 7.5 by default, as you have it. That’s a good value. If you reduce it, you’ll get more hyphens.
If you lower the minimum gap from the factory value of 2 spaces, then you ought to reduce this to compensate.
The compression value sets how much Dorico can play around with these values, if there’s just not quite room for another hyphen.
Thank you very much Ben, much appreciated! I apparently have not understood the settings properly, back to testing!
