Record VST instrument (I know everyone asks, but need help)

Hey all,
After a few years out of the loop, I’ve returned to a much more elaborate Cubase 10 (Artist), and I’m at a loss for something I used to do al the time.
How do I record a VST instrument?

I’ve looked around and did the following:

  1. Created a VST track
  2. Created a Group track
  3. Created an audio track.

Routing:
VST track goes into Group
Group goes into “No Bus”
Now according to various posts here I’m supposed to set input on the Audio channel to Group. But it’s not available.
What am I doing wrong?

Would appreciate your assistance.
THANKS!

You’re making this far more complicated than it needs to be.

  1. Right right click in the track area and choose ‘create track’.
  2. Choose ‘instrument track’. A box opens where you can select an instrument. After you select and press OK the track is created.
  3. Select the track, make sure ‘record enable’ is active and start recording.

Afterwards if you want you can of course create group tracks, FX tracks, bounce selections to audio tracks and much more…

Hey Nickeldome - I’m afraid my explanation is off -
what I mean is to record the AUDIO of the vst…

Just use File->Export->Audio

Select the midi part->go to Edit menu->Render in place

Thanks!
