I used to have three presets for recording my audiobooks - but I’ve just had to rebuild everything after the Eaton Fire (new equipment, new computer, new software install) and I find I can’t save any presets - I can manually change each file (ie. to 20 bit rather than 16 bit) but can’t save that anywhere as a permanent option to change to. I checked permissions in the Library but am at a loss where to look otherwise.
What do you mean? You can’t find the option to save? Or if you save, nothing is actually saved?
You also say “presets for recording” and in the title “Window Presets” (workspace layout? or Windows 11 ?).
I found a way - though it’s not showing up where it used to…
To clarify: This is all in Wavelab Pro 13 on Mac. Where the blue digits show in the record window (channels/sample rate/ bit depth) if I hit the down arrow to the left, that usually showed the presets that had changes programmed, it just has ‘No Presets’ greyed out, and if I expand the blue digits I can only change those three settings and cannot save as a preset - which is how I believe I used to do it.
Now I see I can save and name in the lower insertion point below ‘Input’ (buses) - and it does save them so a simple one click will set me up for the recording.
There must be some stage of permissions or something that might have let me do it the way I used to but… this will work, I believe.
The following setting folder should have permissions to write to:
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/WaveLab Pro 12/
Please verify you can write files there and in
/Users/YourName/Library/Preferences/WaveLab Pro 12/ presets
Yup - that’s the first thing I checked, and it shows that: myname (Me) has Read & Write privileges for both folders…
The other thing I checked was whether I had Global General setting location set as common for all users, and I do. (wasn’t sure whether or not that’s important)
That’s a special setting “for users that know what they are doing”, because administrative rights apply.
The recommended setting is:
I was on that at the start today (must have defaulted to that on the rebuild) but I know I was on ‘Common’ way back, which is why I moved to that - But after seeing your note I adjusted it back to see.
I went back to ‘Independent’ and apart from losing access to the new presets it didn’t change a thing… so I’m back with my ‘Common’ setting where I have the presets available (just, as I say, not how I used to have them.
I appreciate your help.
