Recording Audio in Wavelab

Hi everyone,

I need to record the output of Cubase during videos/tutorials, etc. I frequently stop and resume, so I can’t do it within the same Cubase project. Usually, I use another DAW for this (Reaper, Ableton) because OBS compresses the audio too much.

The routing is simple: I created a CUE in the Cubase control room (which I also use for streaming and other purposes without issues) and set it as a duplicate of my mix, so it sends exactly what I hear. This output goes to a stereo Out of my RME HDSPe RayDat (SPDIF), which I set in loopback to call the SPDIF input in any software and get the audio I need.

I’m trying to do this with WaveLab for the first time, which I hadn’t considered before out of habit. I click REC, set the desired input, and start the REC. At this point, I open Cubase and press Play, and the audio starts after 1-2 seconds, not instantly as it usually does in the same type of situation using a secondary DAW.

The ASIO driver is shared, but it always is with other apps (for example, using Spectralayers, this problem doesn’t occur) without issues, so as far as I can tell, the only variable is WaveLab.

Am I doing something wrong? Thanks!

I’d disable Release Driver (when Application is in Background) for all applications, as the RME driver has its own ASIO multi-client mixing capability and the driver release is therefore not expedient but sometimes even disruptive (e.g. generates delays, mutes).

Damn, completely sure it was setted up that way, but I forgot I reinstalled WaveLab from scratch and forgot to disable it.

Thank you for this dose of phosphorus
