Recording MIDI creates Part starting from the previous Part?

I have had this behavior (not sure it’s a bug) for a while. I find it annoying and I feel like there must be a way to turn it off somehow?

  • Record a MIDI Part (I call them Event but I believe the right term is Part) onto a track.
  • Move cursor to a later bar and record another MIDI part there.
  • = The new MIDI Part doesn’t start from where I had my cursor, but from where the previous part ended, giving me a long empty stretch in the MIDI Part.

This doesn’t make any sense to me. I wouldn’t mind if the parts were merged into one actually, but now I just end up with two parts where one has a load of nothing in it.

Hi, @kevincroner

At first glance, I would check that, in the Common Record Modes menu (lower left of the project window), the Start Recording at Selection option isn’t ticked : if it is, I would use the Start Recording at Cursor Position one instead.

Thanks for the reply! I thought that would be it – but no, it is set to Cursor Position.
