recording midi problem with Cubase 8 Artist on mac OS X

If I add an instrument track and hit the record button on the transport panel (with record enabled of course), it shows a grey bar event being created on the relevant track but when I play keys on my instrument, it is not recording them and then after I hit stop the grey event that was recording disappears. What could the problem be as I can hear the notes just cant record them? Is this a bug?

Same problem here.

Is there any solution? I tried and tried for hours, the notes arrive correctly but as soon as I press “record” the notes last received get stuck and are recorded, if no note was active nothing gets recorded.

Actually I find it outrageous that support does not respond. Must be a bug or some hidden “feature”.
