Recover Auto-saved Project Again and Again

Since Dec. 21, every time I start my computer I get the following announcement:

I have clicked the “Recover Selected Projects” button and saved this project to my desktop on several occasions but this doesn’t prevent the announcement from popping up yet again when the computer starts up. This time I will select Discard All and see what happens.

Why it came up in the first place also puzzles me. I have gotten such messages before for no apparent reason, but not with such persistence. Does Dorico require projects to be closed down manually before a Mac is turned off??

Normally, if you Shut down your Mac, then all open apps should quit as part of that process. Obviously, if there are unsaved documents that need attention, they will flag that.

But, as the message says, Dorico is not closing correctly, for some reason. What happens when you quit Dorico normally, without shutting down?

You can create a diagnostic report from the Help menu, which may contain useful information that identifies the problem.

thanks, @benwiggy That has always been my experience. One is warned if a file hasn’t been saved and this will stop the shut down until the proper button is clicked. So Dorico’s behavior puzzles me.

I once mentioned (and you responded) that there is an occasional announcement that Dorico has delayed shut down even if I have closed all Dorico files but the program itself is still running when I shut down. Perhaps these are related?

I will now shut down and restart and see what happens since I clicked Discard All.

If you have closed all Dorico documents, then there shouldn’t be an auto-save files left, even if it doesn’t quit gracefully, so that is very odd.

I would check that the Auto-save folder is empty when Dorico has quit. Note that when you recover an auto-save file, you need to re-save it to a new location – if you just open it, work on it and save it, it will save back to the Auto-save folder.

Anything in the auto-save folder at launch will trigger the dialog.

The announcement is gone now after clicking Discard All and restarting.

I will investigate the behavior along the lines of your suggestion the next time it happens. Typically I have saved such a recovered file to the desktop, and then moved it to the appropriate folder, but that may not have been the case with this file, since it was such a strange recovery that I probably just trashed it off the desktop.
