Hello,
Whenever I record audio ( in Cubase 12 pro) and even MIDI, after a few seconds (sometimes more, sometimes less), the sound cuts out and Cubase displays the message: “Recording problem, audio dropout detected.” This happens regardless of the number of tracks or plugins loaded in the project.
Even with just one audio track and no plugins, the issue persists.
I’ve tried several solutions over the past few days:
I tested all buffer sizes, but it didn’t change anything.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Cubase and its drivers, as well as the drivers for my audio interface, twice.
I installed another DAW, and with it, no audio dropouts occurred.
When I disconnect my audio interface and use my computer’s built-in sound card, there are no dropouts either.
I tried a different audio interface (I have a Scarlett 4i4 3rd Gen and tested with another Scarlett 2i2), but the issue remained.
I installed ASIO4ALL, but it didn’t work either.
I started to think the issue is with Cubase itself.
I launched Cubase in Safe Mode and disabled third-party plugins, but that didn’t help.
I deleted the preferences file to reset Cubase to its default settings.
Earlier, I noticed that even when I’m not doing anything in a project and everything is paused, I see the ASIO Guard and other performance meters in the Audio Performance Monitor moving constantly. They spike toward processing overload, clip, then drop back down, and repeat the cycle.
Currently, Cubase is using 40–50% of my CPU at all times, even when doing almost nothing.
I don’t understand what’s happening—it started suddenly.
Best regards,
