When I select the first syllable of a hyphenated lyric, a red circle that appears underneath the syllable, as shown below.
I’m not sure why the circle is there, or what it’s supposed to indicate. It appears even when the Proofreading feature is disabled.
Is there a way to prevent the red circle indicator from showing up? I don’t find it beneficial; rather, it’s distracting.
It’s an anchor point that shows where the syllable is aligned. You’ll also see them on extension lines, which can be dragged or lengthened/shortened.
There’s no way to hide them. You’ll see them on all kinds of notation elements, like slurs, lines, techniques, etc, when they are selected.
Thank you. I’ve seen anchor points for slurs and hairpins. Never thought much of them, since they seemed essential for adjusting those elements.
In terms of lyric syllables, is there some way to utilize them? Dragging the anchor point doesn’t seem to do anything differently than dragging the end syllable or any lyric.
According to the Version Notes for Version 6.0: “it is now possible to drag lyrics left and right in Write mode, which moves them between notes.”
The anchor points also show you the alignment of a syllable, as in these two staves (where the top has a melisma):
Please oh please Steinberg give us the option to hide this circle, it’s super annoying!
