Red triangle on notehead

why is there this read triangle on this notehead in notehead sets?

The red corner indicates that it differs from the factory default for that notehead.

old topic… I was wondering the same thing. Dorico 5.1
For some reason, when I create a new set by pressing the big plus button at the bottom left, and I choose a new note head, it also changes the default note head. What am I doing wrong? (I have to put the 2nd screen shot in a different post…)

Whenever I create a new notehead set, I follow these steps:

  1. Go to Library > Notehead Sets to open the Edit Notehead Sets dialog.
  2. Click the plus button at the bottom of the first column to create a new notehead set.
  3. Give the new notehead set a unique name.
  4. Click the plus button at the bottom of the second column to create a new notehead.
  5. Click on the notehead shown under the word Category.
  6. Click on the second button under this notehead to remove it from the set. This is the notehead that is shared with other notehead sets and would get a red triangle if edited.
  7. Give the remaining notehead a unique name.
  8. Click the pencil button to change the appearance of this notehead.

Ah!..

" Click on the second button under this notehead to remove it from the set. This is the notehead that is shared with other notehead sets and would get a red triangle if edited."

Why does it automatically create a shared notehead, and why isn’t it a button to un-share it?.. And it has to be done IMMEDIATELY when creating a new set, closing the window and reopening it will not allow for removal… further more, the set itself is not removable either

Anyway, thank you
Alex

Oh, and look at my previous screen shots… my set “Clusters” is gone… I am working with the same file, obviously, haven’t closed it since I start posting. Maybe these are bugs that need to be reported

And I don’t know how much things changed since version 2, but the YouTube video called “How to Use the Notehead Set Editor in Dorico Pro” (apparently I can’t include links in this forum), Anthony doesn’t touch the first note that is created by default when creating a new set, so it doesn’t explain much

If you can’t remove a notehead from your own notehead set, then that notehead is being used somewhere in your project. And if that notehead can’t be removed, then the notehead set containing it can’t be deleted either.

in this case I think there’s something wrong with my program… I removed everything and I got this, and I still can’t remove either the notehead or the set:

delete the preferences maybe?

Deleting the preferences is a recommended step for Finale in certain circumstances, but I wouldn’t do that for Dorico. Sorry, but I don’t know what else to suggest other than starting a new project.

I did… and is seems to be working, with your advice to remove whatever Dorico is putting as the first note. Thank you.
