Hello - I have an orchestra piece that contains 6 exercises, each a different flow. In one exercise only, the two percussion lines need to have 1 line staves only, rather than 5. I am attaching a sample dorico file. The flow labeled Rhythm Patterns 1-14 is the one I need to show 1 line staves for the perc parts. How do I accomplish this? It’s not letting me do it like have done for the other instruments. I am posting a link for a reduced version of Dorico file (containing just 3 flows/exercises) since it is too big to post. This middle one RHYTHM PATTERNS 1-14 is the flow where I need the perc lines to be 1 staff line each.
Hi @Scherzo_Trading, one possible way is to create two more players (I used two players holding a snare drum), then copy the rhythm from the Player 1 and Player 2 into them, rename the new two players snare drums instruments as Player 1 and Player 2.
Then check the new two players to be only visible in the second flow:
And uncheck the original Player 1 and Player 2 from the second flow (Dorico will warn you that their music will also be deleted, but you already copied it over). Then you can set the desired bracket in Engrave mode.:
For the parts, be sure you check the extra two players for the original layouts of Perc. 1 and Perc. 2 (you can then delete the extra two layouts that was generated for the new 2 added players):
Unless I’m missing something, I don’t think you need duplicate players for this.
That’s because you added your Percussion players as section players. Is there a specific reason for this? For your other players you added a one line percussion instrument, but section players can only hold one instrument.
If you change them to single players (add two empty single players, move the kits to those and rename) you can add an extra one line percussion instrument (e.g. claves like you did with other players) and use that for that particular flow. Here done for the Perc. 1 player:
Thank you both. Zalde, there’s more to this piece than I included in the sample and it was a work in progress for me. To answer your question, once I got to this point, I needed to find a solution that works given where I am now. I’m sure I could/should have done it differently from the start.
Christian, you are brilliant as always! Thanks for the help. That’s what I needed. Appreciate the responses and help from both of you.
