Is there an easy way to customize rehearsal marks to say something like “Verse”, “Chorus” or whatever? And I mean easy as in Sibelius Text->Special Texts->Rehearsal marks?
It is simplest to use normal system text (shift-alt-X) and set the border property.
You can leverage the Index and Suffix properties for this. The word Verse, for example, starts with a V which is the 22nd letter of the alphabet, so set the Index to 22 and add erse as the suffix. (The sequence type must be Letters as well, obviously.)
You can even define a paragraph style and set a key command for it. You do this by setting the “star” icon after you made the style. That way, your new style becomes available in the key commands dialog!

Thanks but I was wondering if you can do it through rehearsal marks. I can see how this workaround you suggested could be useful, though.
Thank you for this, but it sounds a bit complicated. Is it really the case that in Dorico you can’t customize rehearsal marks freely?
Thank you for the suggestion.
Rehearsal Marks have to be part of a sequence – A B C, 1 2 3, etc. You can add additional text to their index letter/number, but you can’t hide that letter/number.
System Text does what you need.
Ok, thanks!
You’re welcome! To be clear, that new custom paragraph style can be made to look exactly like a rehearsal mark!
Plus, if need be, you can use actual rehersal marks alongside these text markings…
Thank you! Very informative.
