Long title, but I have checked the option to release the ASIO driver, when the DAW (Nuendo) is in the background, but it is nearly useless since I can’t render to a file that is in use in WaveLab, and if I close the project (WaveLab) the same thing, occurs i.e., “unspecified error”.
Can this error be specified so it can be addressed because it makes the whole Release Driver functionality less than useful, when one could argue, how I would like to be able to use it, is/should (be) precisely what it is for, and was intended, or is it only for DAW applications.
Also, the fact that rendering stops when the application goes into the background, means I can’t be rendering a file in the DAW, to then switch over to the mastering application, or any other for that matter, kind of seems to be either an old idea that has never been reworked or looked at since it was originally made (ASIO), or else is plain unfit for purpose.
Subject to what PG might say, the issue here may not be the ASIO driver but which app has ‘custody’ of the file and what it is doing with it at the time.
Release ASIO driver is done to be able to use playback. Or, do you mean you render with an external effect? In which case you need the ASIO driver being active.
Or this has nothing to see with ASIO, and you just have a problem overwriting a file being used in WaveLab? In that case, what happens if you use another name?
I think it is the “custody” issue, but that is unfortunate since I had already closed the project (WaveLab).
Surely, this can be addressed in some way because I really don’t want to have to keep on opening and closing each application, one after the other, day in day out just to listen back, re-render and remix over again.
I say this because I tried using WASAPI, while the ASIO driver was active but there are pops and clicks galore, so no solution there.
I already use one system to render stems from VSTi’s, and then I use DropBox to transfer the .wav files to another system to mix, via the internet but to have to need a third system is a bit much, particularly when you consider associated hardware, so I was hoping for something simpler for the longer term.
Anyway, it won’t stop me from purchasing WaveLab, it is a fantastic program, except to say I would like a non-3d view of the spectrum, rather than such a fancy scope.
Also, it was an unexpected, not unspecified error.
I believe that this is what I will need to do, delete and rename so thanks for your reply and suggestion.
