Remove licenses from USB stick

Hi,
My DAW computer is dead. I will get another computer in a few months time.
How to un-install the licenses from the USB licensor.
Can I temporarily install the software manager and just release the licenses only?
There will be no installations of these software (cubase etc) in that temporary computer.
Any advise is appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi,
the the licenses are not tied to a computer but to the USB eLicenser. So you don’t need to remove them from the dongle if it still works. Just plug it in the new computer, install the eLicenser Control Center software there, and you should be good to go. But maybe I didn’t understand your question correctly.

The USB ELicensor use will end in early 2025.
Until I get a good computer for DAW, need to keep the licenses with Steinberg.
Thank you for the reply.

No, it will not end.

Your USB eLicenser will continue to work indefinitely, until it breaks or you lose it. It will not stop working.

What is not possible in early 2025 is to upgrade or update any license that is still on the USB eLicenser. The dongle itself does not need any connection to any service to keep on working.

Thank you for the reply.
I think I have to rephrase the question.
Is it possible to transfer my E licenses from USB stick to my steinberg account?

If you registered your USB eLicenser with your mySteinberg account, the licenses are probably already listed there as well (under “Show eLicenser–based products”).
However, they are bound to the dongle and require the dongle to work. You can’t transfer them to the new dongle-free licensing system, except there are corresponding vouchers in the Vouchers section of your account.

If you want to use e.g. Cubase with the new licensing system, you need to buy an update for a recent version. That’s possible until the old eLicenser system gets shut down next year. After the shutdown, you can’t update the old releases any longer and would have to buy the full version again.

Thank you for clarifying.
As I understand, those software designed to work with the USB license will not work otherwise,
And those software will not be re-written to adopt new requirements.
Now I understand the situation.

Yes, that’s right. Sorry if it wasn’t clear before.
The versions that currently require the USB eLicenser won’t be migrated to the new licensing system. The latter is only available with newer versions and therefore you need to buy the updates if you want to use them.

However, if you also have some licenses for virtual instruments and/or content libraries on the USB eLicenser, there are probably vouchers for free updates to the new licensing system in your mySteinberg account. They must be redeemed before the shutdown in 2025, though.
