"Remove Overrides" Chaos

So what’s up with Page Overrides? I have a book of songs with several pieces I’m creating, and these Page Overrides happen that prevent me from doing other things like adding a Title Page template. Yet when I clear the override, it creates havoc with the rest of the songs in the collection. Like somehow, the Titles of the following songs, end up on the last page of the song before it. If Page Overrides didn’t exist, all my headaches, it seems, would go away.

No Sir, I’m afraid they do not happen, you cause them. Basically you are discouraged from modifying the actual pages directly. As much as possible use page templates and insert page template changes.

Right click on the page icon in the right-hand panel of Engrave mode to remove all overrides…

Everything in Dorico works from the global to the local. If you make changes to the layout of one page, then the page is no longer conforming to the page template.

Try not to edit the pages themselves as a means to add titles: use Flow Headings or First page templates for each flow.

So if i import 15 songs, what template do i use?

Remove “All” Page Overrides ahhh… I did the one below that. This fixed it. Use First Page templates for each flow: this Im sure I didn’t do. So to do this in particular, I select the first page of the flow in the Pages Panel, and then select “Insert Page Template Change” and select “First Page” Template?

Oh I think I’ve figured it out. Thanks

NO!

There is an option in Layout Options to use the First page template for the start of each new flow.
Or you can just use Flow Headings – again, set in Layout Options.

Only make a manual change when you want to do something non-standard to your layout.
