Is it possible to delete some of the included images? If they’re stored somewhere in a directory, shouldn’t that be possible?
Yes, although I can’t tell you where preferences are kept on a Mac (on a PC it’s in Appdata). But there is a folder (maybe 2?) where the default pics are kept and those get copied into new Projects. So deleting them there will get rid of them for new Projects, but existing Projects will need to be cleared out individually.
May I ask why you want to delete them? I don’t think that they take up much space in the first place. If you just want to use your own pics you could just switch to the User button, no? Unless, you want to mix both of them. In that case, I don’t have high hopes that they exist as separate pics. At least, I have never come across them as individual stock pics. I might be wrong, though.
Good distinction & I just realized my entire response is for the user pics.
On Windows, these pictures are in this file:
“C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Cubase 15\Track Pictures\FactoryTrackPictures.srf”
For a test I moved that file someplace else, Cubase seems to work without it.
I also don’t really see a reason to do so…
Thank you all for your feedback. It also seems to me that the included images cannot be deleted individually. The reason for my question is to optimize my workflow (one less click in the “User” tab or no unnecessary scrolling).
Generally, the track images are just a nice little extra. I currently only use one to mark the tracks that have automation. And this one is located quite far down in the image collection.
I suspect you’d still need to click on the User Tab to see your pics.
I spent well over a decade trying various ways of using & creating Track Pictures. I eventually came to the conclusion that for me they were more trouble than they were worth. But one thing I learned (at least for Windows) is you don’t need to use the Cubase dialog to add pictures to a Track. You can just drag an image file directly from Explorer. And Explorer, depending on its display/size settings can show way more items than the Cubase dialog. So you can get rid of a lot of scrolling that way.
I stopped using pics maybe around C12 & don’t know if this has changed since.
