Rename DAW-created (simplified) group folders

In this thread, we figured out that Cubase automatically creates simplified group folders:

Sure would be nice to be able to have more control over that, meaning, I’d love to be able to create such simplified folders at will feature-request

Either way, somehow I was able to rename these automatically-create folder tracks, as in this example:

rename

But now I can’t figure out how I did that - when I select that folder in Cubase 13.0.20, it doesn’t give me an edit field anywhere to do so.

Does anybody have any insights into why that is, and how to rename them?

There is a cogwheel in the bottom of your Project tracklist, there you can edit your different tracks including folder tracks exactly how you whant them. I hope that’s what you mean.

Thank you! I’ll give this a try next time I’m in the studio!

To close out on this: These folder can indeed be renamed in the Inspector just by double-clicking on the folder name in the Inspector (“Live Channels” in this example):

live

But the cogwheel in the project tracklist only lets me modify “manually created” folder tracks, not the automatically created folder tracks as discussed in the original (referenced) post.

No big deal, but good to know for reference.

ok, thanks for that!

There are four of the “simplified folders” in Cubase. All of them are created by the DAW itself rather than by the user. They are
Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, and Slytherin

  • Input/Output (hosts the input and output busses)
  • Groups (when you create a group track and chose the “inside folder” option)
  • Effect (when you create an effect track and chose the “inside folder” option)
  • VST (when you create a rack instrument)

You can rename these folders and actually remove any tracks from them or put other tracks inside.

Also, too, these 4 folders can be duplicated. And renamed.
