So you just browse to the correct folder and open the preset. This is a none issue.
Most plugins these days have their own preset browsers anyway.

Sorry but that wouldn’t work either. Unfortunately, Cubase needs the VST name included in the preset to match the actual name of the plug-in for the preset to be detected. And, for some reason, Steinberg did not make the vstpreset format a standard editable XML, so we could switch names manually with a text editor.
In my opinion, there are multiple reasons to prefer the internal preset browser. For example, it is easily configurable to work with control surfaces, and it integrates very well with the MediaBay to define categories and search through the entire plug-in library. But that’s my opinion and personal preference, of course.
Nice hack. Frankly, I think Cubase needs to be hacked a bit more in order to create these solutions.
Yeah, I have to say I had no idea how organizationally convenient this feature is until I used it in Studio One. I renamed instruments and fx.
Well, I know this makes no sense to publish because Steinberg does NOT seem to care. Today I had to modify the XML file, again, because for some unknown reason, Cubase has decided to change some plugin names again (I had them modified).
Since thanks to people on this forum I discovered the great idea of renaming the plugins everything has been a dream. Everything looks organized, with names, preferably of a few characters. In the end it has become OCD.
worst; Every time you do a new installation, renaming all the plugins becomes a nightmare. then rename them in the lists. once that’s done, it’s VERY annoying when they revert to their original name (some cannot be renamed directly in your VST3)…well, if any good user with more knowledge knows a way to address this…I’ll ask. I will be eternally grateful!

For me it would be nice to view the channel window, and have it so I could rename the plugin in slot 3 (for just this project) Hardcompressor, or something that means something to me.
It would just be the display name so shouldn’t be too wacky to implement, but I can’t think of one request on here that has ever been implemented.
I could be wrong though.
What you’re asking for exactly is probably more complicated than it seems (I say this out of ignorance) but there has to be some way. In terms of text alone it shouldn’t be that much of a problem, but after so many years of work, when it’s not done it only wants/can say two things:
–It cannot be done because it is very complicated due to the extensive code.
–Not interested, It is not a priority. (When you look at the other DAWs, they probably have fewer resources, but they do have it integrated.)
Obviously, Steinberg does what he can, but it seems that every attempt he makes ends in failure. It makes me compare it to Antelope Audio, which makes first class products but the software seems to be made by a beginner, and the repairs never end up coming.

Yes this would be a great addition. Like has been mentioned already in this thread, Studio One has this feature for some time. I’ve move to C13 from Studio One, and this is clearly something I miss. I used to named my insert by functions, not about the original plugin name. I like to see on my inserts things like “EQ Fix”, “EQ Tone”, or other things more oriented to what the plugin is doing, which can be different depending on the position in the chain. But I agree this may not be easy as it would require additionnal information for each insert in the track properties. but that would be nice.

Have just got hold of a Nectar CS-12, which has more characters on the display, plus can color plugin slots but even so would be ideal if the ‘AKA plugin names’ FR in plugin manager could be a thing ].
Hey Steinberg: it’s been 6 years of people asking this and other companies being able to implement this (perhaps their programmers are more skilled?)
This is starting to get embarrassing.
From a technical POV this should be super simple. Just being able to add a custom label string to use per insertfx, with a fallback to the regular plugin name.
I bet everyone experienced those moments where you had to open a handful of plugins and check their settings to find out which is the instance you wanna tweak.
I love Cubase but year after year I’m frustrated by Steinberg who really don’t seem to give a f*** about quality of live improvements and fixing issues 
Goddamn I need this too! The workaround above to rename global plugin name won’t help, as I sometimes need to distinguish different instances of the same plugin in the same chain. Eg compensation EQs for different headphones in control room I swap in and out, giving them some role name.
Not hard. Seeing this request is years old, along with other threads, is anyone from Steinberg looking at this forum?

I would love to be able to rename my VST3 plugins so the Remote Control Editor doesn’t present the WHOLE VST name for every parameter!
