Sometimes when I render in place on a plain audio track Cubase does the render in real-time but I thought that was only mean to happen on channels that have external effects or use an external instrument? Is there an option to change this behaviour somewhere?
Hi,
You are right. This should happen only in case, there is any hardware involved. Does it always happen in the samoe project on the given track? Would you mind to share the project with (only) the track? I don’t need the WAV files, just the CPR.
Hi Martin, yes same project and same tracks, oddly its happening only with the ‘channel settings’, ‘complete signal path’ and complete signal path + master fx’ options. The ‘dry’ option works as intended.
So I think I’ve resolved it but I’m not sure why the fix has worked. I do use an instance of an external effect on another track in the project (not the ones I’ve been rendering). If I remove the external effect from the inserts of this other track my renders for the chosen tracks no longer happen in real-time. Just to clarify the tracks I’m rendering don’t have the external effect on them and they don’t route through anything that does. Is this the intended behaviour for render in place?
Hi,
No, it shouldn’t work like this.
Could you please attach a screenshot of the MixConsole with the Routing, Inserts and Sends tabs open to see? Select the problematic track, please.
The 3 selected channels are my 3 mic options, they are routed to the group channel to the left, which then passes to the stereo out, which has no inserts or sends on it.
Hi
I don’t see a reason, why this should be rendered in real-time.
How does all this behave without the Pro-Q3 as group insert ?
I agree but it is happening. I have to remove the external effects insert from the other channel in the project for it to go back to normal render in place operation. The external effect can’t even be left bypassed on that other channel it has to removed.
I’ve tried removing the instance of Pro-Q3 but the behaviour is the same. Is there something in Pro-Q3 that could cause a render to be done in real time?
I was just thinking that the Pro-Q3 is more than a simple equalizer : from what I have seen (I don’t own a licence of it, so I can’t test it), there is also a realtime analyzer, a dynamic EQ feature, a ‘zero latency’ one, etc. So, I was wondering if all this couldn’t require a realtime rendering when used as an insert…
So is it the group track that you’re rendering or the audio tracks?
If it’s the audio tracks did you try them individually and they all do it?
Could it be RX having some kind of sidechain connection to the external FX track somehow.
Ah makes sense, it has lookahead as well. I’ve ruled it out though as the issue remains when I remove Pro-q3.
I’m rendering the audio tracks but mixed down to one file and through the group track:
I think I’ve figured it out now though. It only bounces in real time if another channel in the project has an external effect on it and both that channel and any one of the tracks I’m rendering are routed to the same send effect (in this case an R2 reverb).
So I’m assuming that they are somehow linked as they are going through the same send and that triggers the real-time rendering. This seems to be the case even if the send effect is disabled, it also doesn’t matter what the send effect is.
Ah, yeah…Cubase always seems to see disabled sends as potentially active. Have seen this with people who try to choose an audio track as input and it’s unavailable because of potential feedback loop.
