Render in Place issue

In 8.0.20 I have a piano midi track connected to Halion Sonic SE. Select edit, Render in place, Render settings. I have tried all settings and get the same result.

Select render and the render window pops up and finishes. The new track is created but the wave file is empty and flat lined.

Make sure you have selected the event or events you wish to render, or make sure you have selected the track you wish to render. Make sure the track or the event is not muted.
