Render in place with side chain doesn't appear to work?

i can’t seem to get any version of render in place (dry, channel settings, complete signal path, complete signal path and master fx) to bounce a vst instrument with a side chained compressor correctly. i have a vst3 compressor on an insert slot of a vst synth instrument being keyed off a kick drum. every version of the render in place just bounces the synth without the compressor being keyed. hopefully i’m doing something wrong. would someone mind trying this and seeing if they can get a rendered audio file with the compressor being keyed correctly?

Apparently using “render in place” with tracks using plugins with side chain input is not currently supported. That’s disappointing.
