How can I make a repeat region without having to delete the existing notes first?

can you be more specific, please? I donāt quite understand what you are looking for. A screenshot would be most welcome 
Itās a bit difficult now to make a screenshot, but: my part consist of a lot of bars that have the same notes but with different dynamics. Now I want to replace the notes by a bar repeat region, but keep the dynamics. And if Iām working in a mode where thereās multirest active, deleting and than making bar repeat region results in flipping to multirest, so thereās no way to select the bars anymore, Of course I can disable multirest or go to another mode, but still: is there a way to select a bunch of non-emty bars, make them into a bar repeat region and make the notes that were there invisible without having to delete them.
I never understood why bar repeat regions are not āopaqueā while I almost always want them to be, and slash regions, where I want to have the information ābehindā it visible, are always opaque. It seems like the most wrong decision. Iād like to know who ever wants opaque slash regions and non-opaque bar repeat regions. And why. Just out of curiosity.

If you donāt want to switch to the score, where multi bar rests are disabled by default, you could create the bar repeat region first, then select the bars and filter to just Notes and Chords, then delete the notes.
Actually, you can also create the bar repeat region on top of the multi bar rest, and if you didnāt want to include all of those bars, you could then drag the handles on the region to adjust.
Bar repeat regions play back correctly on their own, so thereās currently not a need to have both a bar repeat region and notes.
I said it wrong then:
At a bar repeat region you donāt want to see the notes, but you see them (unless you manually delete them) You agree with me, thereās no need for both notes and repeat signs. But Dorico makes it happen as default.
At a slash region, you might want to add some notes to it, Dorico makes this very hard.
So it should be the other way around: bar repeat regions should be āthickā (canāt see through, I thought that was opaque in English) and slash regions should be see-through, so you can easily add kicks and cues. Iād be interested why it is the other way around now? Who benefits from the way it works now? Just curious.
No, I think you said it correctly, but I may not have been clear in what I said. Since you donāt need notes in a bar repeat region, thereās no reason to have them there, and therefore no need to make the bar repeat region opaque to cover them up.
If you did have notes under a bar repeat region, they could be different from the notes being repeated. Which should Dorico play back ā the explicit notes, or the bar repeats, or both? So maybe the bar repeat regions are transparent specifically to remind you to delete any notes in those bars.
Iām not defending the current arrangement, just giving my opinion as to why I think things are the way they are. There have been lots of user requests in this area, like being able to show bar repeats in part layouts and notes in score layouts. If this gets implemented, it may involve a change to the opacity of bar repeat regions.
Yes, now I understand! So I need a little more practicing deleting with help from the omnipotent filter. I avoid the filter a little bit, because it is so intimidating powerful. I put it on my āuse it to get along with itā list together with learning to add kicks & cues in a slash region. Work to do!
