Repeat sign not working as it should be see my reply

I’m presently working one a file of 55 measures just to learn how to enter lyrics into a melody staff.

I noticed that when I playback the file, that the first and second ending in measures 21 & 22 works as suppose to, but the first and second ending in measures 54 & 55 don’t seem to me that it does what it should do, yes it repeat on the first pass to measure one but it should repeat from the repeat sign in measure 2.

How can I have it to repeat from measure 2. See attached project

Your help on this matter would be greatly appreciated

Many Thanks

Germain

Repeat bars always work in pairs. The repeat barline in bar 54 can only go back to the start because there is no corresponding start repeat. You should probably use a segno and DS.
(Others may have more elegant solutions)

There’s a start repeat at measure 2. And I also used a segno and it does the same thing start from measure 1 but I didn’t use the D.S. I will try the D.S at the end and I’ll see if it works

Thanks Janus

Yes, but that is only tied to the first repeat at bar 21. The later repeat will not recognise it.

Hi Janus

I have try what you propose adding a DS for the final and a segno for the measure 2 but it doesn’t solve the problem. The music keep jumping in measure 1 and it should be jumping to measure 2 It must be a way to correct this downfall isn’t it

Germain

Not sure if you’ve solved it, but this works (as I think you wanted)…

When you add the D.S. at the end of bar 54, you also need to delete that repeat barline. Then it works as expected for me.

Edit: @Janus has provided one solution file, but I think the jump to the coda may not be where you want it. Here’s another possibility.

I have tried with DS and Segno but I haven’t succeeded to make it work yet. But I’ll try some others ways

As you know I don’t have any formal music course what I know and learn for the last years was all by myself. I’m 76 years old but keep going at it I’m a kind of Milomane.

Hi asherber

Yes indeed it works like a charm I’ve listen a few times and everything plays at it should be.
I still wonder why Dorico doesn’t understand the second repeat sign cause many sheet music are written that way perhaps we should put that in a question for Dorico personal
Thank you again for your time and example
