How do I do repeated articulation on a repeated note tremolo (page 223 of Elaine Gould’s “Behind Bars”, for those who have it – I need to put 4 stacatto marks on a single note),

I would recommend creating a custom playing technique with 4 dots. I don’t think there’s native support for this articulation at present.
I can’t see how to do it as a playing technique. As far as I can see, that would default to above or below the staff, instead of being next to the notehead,
Sure, but you can easily flip them using F, and move them around in Engrave mode. I’m assuming you don’t have oodles of them.
Maybe putting something as complicated as “4 staccato marks on one note” inside the staff isn’t a good idea anyway, but it’s your score not mine. None of Gould’s examples are inside the staff, though theoretically one of them (three dashes) could fit in a staff space.
If there is an Articulation that you’re not using, you can edit its symbol in Engrave mode. Then you will have auto up/down symbols.
