Request for OMF import at Cursor Feature

Hi!
I wanted to request a feature that would allow importing OMF files at the cursor position, similar to the existing option for AAF imports. Often, when I have several videos on my timeline, each with its own OMF, the process becomes a bit tedious. It’s not the end of the world, but for each video, I currently have to manually set the timecode to 00:00:00:00 at the beginning of the video using the “Set Timecode at Cursor” option, and then import the OMF.

Alternatively, if I import the OMF without adjusting the timecode, the tracks end up at the beginning of the timeline, which can sometimes interfere with tracks from the first video on the timeline, requiring me to drag them into position manually.

It would make things much easier if we could have an “Import OMF at Cursor Position” option, just like we do for AAF files. This would greatly streamline workflows when dealing with multiple videos and OMFs.

Since it is creating new tracks in the process, isn’t it trivial to move that content to whatever time code you want? This is what I do and it takes maybe 10 seconds.

Yes, you’re right. However, each OMF can consist of 50+ tracks, especially when editors export stereo tracks as two mono tracks. This means you will have to keep the first portion of the timeline empty because when you import the new OMF, all the tracks come in at the beginning and create new tracks underneath the existing ones. If you already have tracks at the beginning of the timeline, you have to remember the last track lane to avoid accidentally selecting its events and dragging them along with the new imported OMF.

Additionally, you need to ensure you’ve selected all the tracks and that “Snap to Events” is activated to sync the very first event of the OMF to the first frame of the video. Sometimes the events at the beginning are very close to each others, and I’ve had instances where I accidentally drag the wrong event at the start of the video.

There are workarounds, and it’s not the end of the world, but since there’s this option for AAF imports, it would be great to have the same for OMF imports
