Have composed nearly 35 minutes of a new work all in Dorico, which is my first after decades using Finale. Enjoying it!
There are two things I’m thinking about from my experience that would really help me avoid some errors, and I suspect many other folks as well:
If using the chord tool to add a note, it would be great if the note value defaulted to the note value of the existing note(s). For example, when clicking on a 16th-note chord with the Chord Tool evoked, the note value for the entries (using my synthesizer to input notes) defaults to the grid value (usually a quarter note). I’d love it if it notes to be added to a chord assumed the value of the existing notes (in this case, a 16th note).
Some visual cue that Insert is on would also be helpful
Hoping to finish this thing soon, but it’s been a good way to learn Dorico.
Yes and yes. Thanks. I just hadn’t noticed either when I was working but now will be alert to those. I must’ve had Pitch before Duration on when I tried some of this.
But as I think about it more, many times I’m selecting notes and pasting and also hitting R. Easy to miss that Insert is on as in that case, there is no visual indicator since I’m not using the Caret. Often times I’m copying and pasting, in all honestly, and even dragging notes (which does work, although not as fluidly as Finale since the latter was designed for that).
This one actually comes up often and the team is aware / in discussion about it AFAIK. Some amusing reading on this thread, such as the occasionally half-joking suggestion that the background flash red and a siren goes off until you disable it
Yes of course. But I’m focused on the music and have to constantly double-check that certain parameters aren’t unintentionally engaged and that is one of those. Easy to miss. Just being honest.
