I’m new to Dorico from Finale (RIP). Do I have to download 15 Gigabytes worth of stuff from the Download Manager in order to play back a simple melody? I hate to clutter up my computer with “Indian Drum Basics” and other stuff I’m not likely to use. The “Steinberg Download Manager” marks some things as “(Recommended)” but is everything else required? Is there documentation?
The minimum you can realistically get away with is the “HALion Sonic Selection” content - which is why it’s marked as “recommended” - but most people will typically want/need either Iconica Sketch or HSO or both as well. The other libraries are more specialised and you can probably guess from the names whether you need them or not.
Thanks, Richard. That doesn’t seem to work on my machine (Mac Sonoma 14). I have that installed but am not getting any sound. Maybe something else is required . . .
You’ll need to make sure you have HALion Sonic itself installed, of course, but I expect you’ve done that. What instrument are you attempting to play back? There’s a sampled piano in HALion Sonic Selection so try a piano score first - if that’s not working it suggests there may be some other problem, in which case it might be easiest to create a diagnostic report file (from the Help menu) and upload that here.
Thanks, Richard. This is all so strange to me it took a while to sort it, but I did get it in the end. The key was in Dorico>Preferences>Audio Device Setup
Thanks again
