Resolution of midi modulation?

I’m trying to automate my external synth’s filter with some rather quick movements. I record the MIDI + audio. When sending the recorded MIDI track to the synth - the result sounds “choppier” than the original audio.

Is there anything I can to set in terms of the frequency Cubase sends a CC update to my synth to reduce the “choppiness”?

Hi,

Do you use Ramp or Steps of the MIDI CCs? The Ramp option is using some kind of hard-coded reduction level. But it’s the same for the playback and the export, so the audible result should be the same in both cases.

I see the modulation as ramps/curves. I’m hearing a difference between live-recording the audio and changing the filter, and then have the synth steered by MIDI.. sure it’s some resolution thing - but I understand it cannot be changed?

Hi,

In the Key Editor, click on the Controller Lane Setup > Type of New Controller Event and select Step.

Then record the MIDI CCs again. The reduction, I mentioned before, disappears.

You might have to turn off the grid as well. (default key command: J)

Thank you both! Will try! (though grid was not the issue here)

Hi,

This is useful only if you draw the MIDI CCs. Recording is not affected. Enabling the Auto Q button would automatically quantise the incoming MIDI data.
